Start the year with a Blog so you’re ready in advance: Here’s what you need to know… From 31 March 2025, workplaces (businesses and non-domestic premises) in England with 10 or more full-time equivalent employees will need to recycle the following waste streams: plastic, metal, glass, paper and card, and food waste.
You need to separate paper and card from other dry recyclables (plastic, metal and glass). Waste collectors may also choose to collect other dry recyclable materials separately. You should discuss how your dry recyclable waste will be collected by your chosen waste collector.
You must always separate dry recyclable waste from food waste and black bin waste from each other.
Workplaces with fewer than 10 full-time equivalent employees will need to comply from 31 March 2027.
The Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has published FULL guidance to outline how this affects workplaces (businesses and non-domestic premises) and waste collectors collecting from these premises. This includes guidance on how the dry recyclables can be co-collected in the same container.
