Net Zero Suffolk Business Support

Free support to help Suffolk-based organisations reach net zero

What is Net Zero?

Reaching net zero means reducing greenhouse gas emissions to as close to zero as possible, any emissions that cannot be reduced are absorbed by the atmosphere. Achieving net zero is really important as the proportion of greenhouse gases in our atmosphere have reached undesirable levels and are propelling global warming, which is severely affecting earth’s eco-systems.

How can you reach net zero?

Since 2022, with funding from Suffolk County Council, community and environment charity Groundwork East has been  providing free advice to Suffolk organisations through its Net Zero support programme.  The programme provides a blend of online and in person support to any size of organisation with advice, tailored carbon management services and site-specific energy audits.

In 2022 and 2023 Groundwork’s sustainability consultants supported over 300 organisations across Suffolk and the programme has been extended  into 2024 to help even more businesses and organisations meet the UK Government’s net zero targets.

Who has been helped?

Through the Business Support programme, Groundwork has provided bespoke advice to sole traders, schools, community groups, retailers, manufacturers and many more.

One such organisation was Walpole Old Chapel, who wanted support in meeting their Net Zero ambitions. Groundwork assessed their scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol as well as calculating the associated carbon emission savings from identified energy efficiencies. They were supported to develop a alongside advice on fabric improvement measures. An important part of the assessment is to develop approaches that encourage staff, and in this case visitors to reduce energy wastage. The organisation was signposted to available grant funding that would enable plans to be taken forward.

Our net zero report was really useful, especially before we applied for a grant for the chapel.’
