Our gracious hosts at the Coddenham Centre provided an amazing venue for the gathering of many Charter members, staff, technical consultants and the general public, all eager to contribute to the preparations needed for the low carbon future.
Volvo trucks UK provided an incredible example of how the technology of electric HGV’s has now advanced to present a viable alternative to the old technology of diesel lorries in every market segment. We were fortunate to get electric truck specialists Jon Warby and Richard Riley of Volvo to give a comprehensive rundown of how fast the market is switching to electric to take advantage of the lower operation and maintenance costs. Wow!
Not only was the huge demonstrator by far the largest EV ever to be at this event, it was also an example of the practical application as, once it had left this event, it was on its way to be used as part of Anglia Water’s growing fleet of electric vehicles.
They were joined by Sophie Flux of Suffolk Wildlife Trust with her amazing take on how biodiversity benefits us all.
After the presentations there was a chance to network with other attendees, look around the incredible exemplar of an environmentally aware building that is the Coddenham Centre as well as a biodiversity walk through the beautiful countryside grounds of the venue.
There has been lots of positive feedback about the delicious food on offer. With a Vegan menu provided by Alison’s eatery of Bury St Edmunds providing unique culinary delights. With the addition of very local flavours provided by Gail of Cooked in Coddenham, there was literally something for everyone.
After being on display at the event, the prestigious ADEPT award bestowed upon the Carbon Charter has now found a permanent home in the glass cabinets you walk past upon entering the main atrium of Endeavour House, the Suffolk County Council HQ in central Ipswich.
It only remains for me to extend sincerest thanks to everyone at the Coddenham Centre for being such wonderful hosts, Alison’s Eatery and Cooked in Coddenham for the catering, my colleagues in the Environment Team at SCC and all of the contributors and attendees who made this such an incredible event.
