18th July 2023: Suffolk County Council is throwing open its doors to show some of the steps being taken on the journey to Net Zero 2030.
Suffolk County Council (SCC) are committed to being net zero by 2030. This event is an opportunity to see some of the measures being used at their main Ipswich office (Endeavour House) to get to that goal.
Join us for an informal networking session and a chance to look around the building.
This event is being done through the ’25 by 25’ campaign and is part of ongoing work to break down barriers that businesses face to making energy reductions.
We’re all on this journey together, so it’s a great opportunity to learn from others’ experiences and share advice and insight.

About SCC’s progress so far
Since 2021, gas use at Endeavour House has been reduced by 47% and electricity by 17%. Across SCC’s largest 6 buildings, gas use has reduced by 62% and electricity by 12% – leading to a reduction in the utility-based carbon footprint of these buildings of 36%
This has been achieved by a package of measures, that have focused on how and when energy is used within these buildings, reducing energy wastage and excess usage.
SCC have also been using a variety of AMR data monitoring and league tabling to target interventions across the estate.
Interventions have included:
- Enhancing Building control and accessibility (BMS Upgrades)
- Reducing Solar Gain (and Glare) – (Micro Louvres)
- Circulating Unused Heat (Destratification Fans)
SCC have also purchased the first of 3 phases of electric vehicles across the fleet of 45 vehicles so there will be an opportunity to have a look at the vehicles and discuss some of the challenges around charge point installation and benefits.
Organisations across Suffolk are responding to the climate emergency by setting targets for net zero. The ’25 by 25’ campaign is supporting businesses to take that first big stride to achieving this goal.
Not all measures will be appropriate to all businesses, but they do show how there are highly cost-effective ways to make reductions of 25% – and more – and pave the way for progress towards net zero. We know that at SCC we still have a lot more to do to deliver our ambition, but also want to make sure that we share our learnings as widely as possible as we make that progress.
