Tuesday 27th September 2022: One of the newest additions to the Charter membership, Fairfields Farm are actually based just North of Colchester but sell their crisps and other products across the region.
They’re on a path to get to carbon neutral, and then on to net zero. Using renewable energy on site, water captured in reservoirs for irrigation and fertiliser derived from on-site anaerobic digestion.
These tractors aren’t electric (yet) but the ones they use are fuelled with biodiesel – mostly from the oil they use to cook their delicious crisps in. This waste oil is then converted for use in their transport.
With annual tree and hedge planting programmes as well as green cover crops over winter and dedicated areas of greenery for wild birds, biodiversity is being included in their good work.
