Tuesday 9th May 2023:  Starting with one Chinese curry sauce concentrate back in 1985, Sudbury-based Keejay’s has been expanding its range of exceptional own-brand and white-labeled Chinese, Indian, European and traditional British varieties to this day.

Look out for their tangy chip-shop style tomato sauce in the Goldfish brand bottles.

They have always considered the environment in their practices and have just renewed their Charter membership for the fourth time.

The business works with its key customers to implement environmental management actions and an example of this is the development of alternatives to black plastic packaging (switching to more easily recycled options).

Most packaging is now procured from Essex (previously it was Canada).  Flour is obtained locally as well.

At their premises LED lighting has been installed in place of halogen spotlights across the offices and meeting rooms.

LED lighting has also been installed in the factory and warehouse as well as sensor switches in the staff canteen, offices and toilets.

They have three company vehicles out on the road: one is electric, one hybrid, and one petrol.  In the packaging department, all three of their forklift trucks are electric.

Keejay’s sources sustainable palm oil and communicates with customers on the topic of sustainable palm oil production.

Food waste is minimised and what little is produced is disposed of separately and collected for anaerobic digestion.  Waste oil in the factory is collected in newly installed grease traps so it does not go down the drain.

Their staff receive environmental training at induction and are well aware of waste minimisation and recycling policies.

For the future, they are looking at solar PV on their rooftop and finding new ways to champion the environmental message to others.
